Bitbar Monitoring can be integrated to multiple existing tools and solutions. Integrating Bitbar Monitoring service to existing tools allows admins and users to get all monitoring information available in a centralized place, used by the whole production team. Note these integrations should be configured first before creating any checks using these.

Slack Notifications

Slack notifications are enabled through setting menu where you are able to enable the notification to Slack. You should have valid Slack credentials before starting this process.

Clicking on “Add to Slack”.

Next Slack domain needs to be provided and you need to sign in into Slack, with your existing Slack credentials.

It is now possible to select the channel to which notifications about incidents should be pushed.

Once the wanted channel has been selected, click on Authorize to finalize the integration! That’s it.

Configuring PagerDuty

There is minimal configuration to be done PagerDuty side. Below guide shows how to setup a PagerDuty account and enable the support for notifications from Bitbar Monitoring.

Once on PagerDuty, start the creation of an account.

Next PagerDuty needs to connect to Bitbar Monitoring and allow the Monitoring service to send notifications to PagerDuty. Bitbar Monitoring notifications are provided through the Bitbar integration that is available through in the drop down list.

It is now possible to select multiple ways of getting notifications from PagerDuty. These include mail, phone call or SMS notifications. Depending on which notification type is used the relevant information needs to be provided.

To verify the information you provided is correct, it is possible to generate a test incident, for which PagerDuty sends a test notification to the requested notification channels.

When monitoring a production service it is good practice to include several people in the notification chain. This assures that in case of a problem multiple persons or groups are notified about the ongoing problem. Typically the sequence of notifications is also related to an escalation policy of notifications in the company.

That’s it! PagerDuty is now able to get notifications from Bitbar Monitoring service for further notifying team members.

Initially after PagerDuty has been configured the PagerDuty incidents view should be empty. This is where any alerts from Bitbar Monitoring are shown and where team members should react. This allows you to assign incidents to a particular team member, acknowledge or resolve incident notifications.

Past incidents get shown at the bottom of the page, with the taken actions.

Getting Results to PagerDuty

Before getting notifications sent to PagerDuty the connection between Bitbar Monitoring and PagerDuty needs to be set up. From the Settings menu the connection is set up by clicking on the PagerDuty integration button. Fill in email and password and authorize the integration.
